It's important to note that the ship RL is tracking gets an indicator. It's especially helpful on slow, stealthy IJN torp boats when you want to avoid the enemy DDs whose job is to sink you. However, RL can be a great team asset on IJN and USN DDs.

If your DD can benefit from both AFT and Concealment, RL is a tough sell. Cruisers and BBs have more valuable skills in AFT, Manual AA, Concealment and IFHE (for 150ish caliber cruisers). Sharing the information you get with your team is vital.Ĥ skill points is expensive. Which ship is it? How close are they? Paying attention to the minimap and enemy ship positions will give you clues. It only indicates the direction to the ship closest to you. RL is not a magic wand that can be used in a vacuum.

You simply move your aim around until that arc is evenly horizontal, look at the minimap, and the first grid square your aiming line goes through the middle of is the location of the closest ship. RL is prevalent on DDs in Ranks 10 and above.
